Individual Performance
PL Tech’s main area of research, focuses on improving the analysis of 20 years’ worth of physiological and performance data, gathered during the training of hundreds of professional athletes. This analysis becomes increasingly relevant as biometric sensors become more powerful and datasets increase.
A key missing factor in most performance analysis equipment is the useful integration of environmental data. Modern training systems miss the vital connection between how you are performing and what you are actually doing. By integrating high-resolution GIS data with physiological performance measurements, an athlete conducting hill training can be given useful feedback, rather than simply being told they are performing ‘outside the training zone’.
The pursuit of better user feedback has PL Tech examining best practice in performance metrics as well. Current industry standard technology uses heart rate and speed zones as the principal measures. While these are important components in performance analysis, PL Tech’s work in the analysis of acceleration and power generation allows for the telling of a much more interesting and useful story to the athlete.
Current and historical training data from an individual can now be relied upon to detect and distinguish between overtraining, detraining, lack of fitness, performance improvement, and fatigue. These extended analysis techniques can then be used to automatically adjust training plans in a much more effective fashion to allow for optimum individual performance.
